How to create a watch-only wallet in Sparrow
Section titled “How to create a watch-only wallet in Sparrow”You can use Sparrow to watch the public keys (xPUB, yPUB, or zPUB) of other bitcoin wallets. This lets you track balances without saving the private key (required for spending) on your desktop.
Create a watch-only wallet in Sparrow by selecting File → New Wallet → add a name → xPUB / Watch Only Wallet.
If you wish to watch a public key from your Ashigaru Wallet, enter the correct derivation path for the intended public key, as below.

Missing or wrong wallet balance
Section titled “Missing or wrong wallet balance”Some users may have trouble viewing their entire wallet balance, especially on the post-mix side. This can usually be resolved by increasing the Gap Limit setting to 300. In rare instances, a much higher limit (1000 or more) may be required.
Gap limit explained
Section titled “Gap limit explained”The address gap is the number of unused addresses between those that have received funds. For example:
- Address #1 receives coins
- Addresses #2 to #11 go unused (gap here is 10 unused)
- Address #12 receives coins
In the example above, the address gap is 10. If your Sparrow Wallet has a Gap Limit of 5, it would not see the coins in address #12. This is why a very large gap limit (1000+) is unusual.
Setting the gap limit
Section titled “Setting the gap limit”- Navigate to
Settings→Advanced→Gap Limit. - Set
Gap Limitto300. - Repeat the above steps for each wallet account (
Deposit,Premix,Postmix,Bad Bank). - Perform a wallet refresh via
View→Refresh Wallet(Ctrl + R). - If the balance still doesn’t appear, the
Gap Limitmay need to be set higher (1000+).
Confirming an address gap in Sparrow
Section titled “Confirming an address gap in Sparrow”- Open Sparrow and navigate to
Addresses. - Scroll through
Receive Addressesand observe any large gaps between the most recently used address and the one prior.- A very large gap should be fairly obvious (e.g. a gap of 1000).
- Unused addresses do not display a value — they are blank.
- Repeat step 2 for each wallet account (
Deposit,Premix,Postmix, andBad Bank) to observe all possible gaps.
Managing address gaps
Section titled “Managing address gaps”If you observe an unusually large address gap between the most recently used address and the one prior, that is a rare bug that occurs on Sparrow when using Whirlpool — it is not a RoninDojo issue.
It’s manageable by being aware and setting the appropriate gap limit whenever you recover your wallet. If the gap limit is too big, you may want to consider moving your coins to a new wallet.
